Teaching Schools Lay the Foundation for the Future

By Michael Bustamante The profession of teaching makes all other professions possible. Teaching Schools prepare teachers to ensure preparation for challenges and opportunities that arise. Teaching colleges and universities abound, and students can easily find opportunities to study for teaching professions. Teaching schools, universities and colleges help teachers prepare to lay foundations for future prosperity by shaping and molding skills in their students. Teacher knowledge is critical to affecting community as well as national development and performance of residents. Teaching professionals have many opportunities to prepare their students for citizenship and participation in community and civic life. Teaching professionals are generally required to have bachelor degrees, to have completed approved teacher training programs, and to have had supervised practice teaching experience before becoming licensed by the state in which they practice their profession. Teaching schools provide choices of focus on studies for professions in early childhood, elementary, middle school, secondary education, or a special education. Teaching courses are designed to provide competent instructors to school systems Teaching school degree programs for careers in education will include math, sciences, social studies, music, art, and literature; and education philosophy, learning psychology, and teaching methodology. Secondary school education degrees require additional courses in a major subject in which the teacher intends to instruct. Some states require teaching professionals to have technical training in teaching and a minimum grade point average; and some states require master degrees in education. Almost all states require licensure, whereas teachers are tested for competency in the basic skills of reading, writing, teaching, and proficiency in subjects taught. Skills obtained at teaching schools must be kept abreast of changing theories, curriculums, and issues of regulation. Subjects that are constantly advancing, shifting, and making new discoveries - history, science, and math, for instance - require constant study. For this reason, teaching schools, colleges and universities provide continuing education courses for teachers who wish to continue providing their students with excellent instruction. Most States require continuing education for renewal of the teaching licenses, which also give students the benefit of current and relevant teaching techniques, subject matter, and instructional practices. Teaching requires organization, dependability, cooperation, patience, and creativity, in addition to being knowledgeable in the subject matter being taught. Teachers must be able to communicate, inspire trust, build confidence, and motivate students to participate in the learning process. Teaching institutions also prepare future teachers to be aware of and prepared for educational needs, emotional needs, and cultural differences of individual students, as it may be crucial for teachers to employ various teaching methods for different students to bring student achievement. Beginning K-12 teachers earn annual salaries of about $40,000 to 50,000; college and university teachers earn somewhat more, depending on the level of education and type of institution. Give Wedding Favors

By Eric Hartwell The little souvenirs or wedding favors given to the guests during the wedding celebration is not just simply a reminder of that very special day. It also serves as a token to the guests, the couples way of showing appreciation and gratitude, because they have become part of their union and celebration. Depending on the bride and groom, wedding favors may come in different types. Some couples even have different favors for different sets of guests. With so many options, choosing the right one could prove challenging. The different types of wedding favors are: SOMETHING EDIBLE. Wedding favors may be given in the form of something edible such as chocolates, special cupcakes, fortune cookies or assorted nuts. A specially concocted wine is another good suggestion couples can give to their principal sponsors. SOMETHING USEFUL. These are those items which not only serve as a decorative ornament - guests can still make use of these even after the wedding. Each of these items may carry a few wedding details. Examples include: Candle Letter opener Key chain Bath salts & scrubs Potted plant Picture frame Coasters Desk pad Colognes and fragrance spray Fan Stuffed animal A MEDIA SOUVENIR. Aside from common decorative tokens which may only be kept in display cabinets in most cases (such as bells, baskets or dove figurines), couples now have this option to give away souvenirs that reflect their union, such as a compilation of their favorite love songs on a CD. Also, using digital technology, souvenirs may be made of and at the actual event. Photos captured a few hours into the ceremony may be reproduced and immediately transferred to a DVD or CD, which may be distributed to the guests just before they leave the party. BASED ON THE SEASON. Giving away favors based on the season leaves a lasting impression. For instance, if the wedding is going to be held in the summer, silk fans will be a gift your guests will appreciate. For weddings celebrated in spring, lovebirds or a creative birds nest filled with goodies is not only a charming gesture, but an innovative idea as well. BASED ON THEME. Typically, most couples choose wedding favors that coincide with the whole theme. Those ceremonies, held in a more lavish and elegant setting, will surely be better off with elegant mementos as well. Those that are held in a more informal and relaxed environment, such as a garden wedding or a beach wedding, will find garden-themed or nautical-themed items more fitting. In planning your wedding favors, your personal style as a couple must reflect the item you choose, on top of the theme or motif your wedding carries. Dont worry about the budget. If there are some constraints in this department, you always have other options. A simple yet thoughtful souvenir you give to guests to remind them of this day will be more than appreciated. That is, after all, the reason why youre giving these favors away in the first place. Your Weight Loss Goals for 2007

By Steven Johnson Everyone is different. There is no ideal weight that suits everybody. Each person has a different body and their healthy weight will be determined by different factors. Unfortunately, the affects of being too heavy can (and does) impact our “social status” in the world around us. Right or wrong, overweight individuals tend to suffer more not only in the health department, but at work and at play. Nowadays, there is more pressure than ever to lose weight. While a majority of us can admit to the fact that yes, it is better to feel good (and hence look “better”), there is no getting away from the TV commercials and written ads that do more than hint at the fact that if you are at your ideal weight you earn more respect and/or can have more friends. Frankly, there is no end to the come-ons we hear to be slim and trim, to lose weight. While we are bombarded with weight loss ads, there is one vital factor associated with maintaining a healthy weight that is true. By reaching the proper weight for oneself, the individual more often than not has more energy and overall better health. No one can deny that carrying excessive amounts of body fat puts undue pressure on various vital organs. Our hearts must work harder. All human body organs are put under undue stress due to excessive weight. We have all witnessed at one time or another the sacrifices of other people (or ourselves!) who have tried to eat the right foods and find time to exercise. Some individuals carry this to an extreme where they will even starve themselves or binge and purge. All for the sake of trying to lose a few pounds. Again, unfortunately, these individuals are not achieving optimum health but instead putting their very lives in jeopardy. And, even if one manages to lose weight typically that weight loss comes right back. A depressing scenario. So what can an individual do to achieve weight loss when watching our caloric intact and getting some exercise just does not seem to be enough? Mother nature may have the answer. There has been a huge influx of different types of herbal weight loss products. These herbal weight loss products have changed in the last century, but the pitches remain the same. Indeed, many herbs, supplements, and diet pills promise results that would put even the most efficient tape worms to shame. Of course it’s no secret that many of these products are fraudulent. But is it possible that a few of them really can live up to their claims? It is interesting to note that a few of the weight loss products on the market today do have the backing and support of pharmaceutical companies. Is it because weight loss products are “big business” or because they work? The jury is still out. But the fact remains that better health can be achieved through proper weight loss. If you are overweight, making that resolution to achieve better health will be the finest gift you can give yourself. Find the proper combination of natural nutrition, and exercise, and include herbal weight loss supplements best suited to your individual needs. A healthy new you and New Year is right around the corner! ================================ Steven Johnson is a proponent of healthy living. No Official Hoodia Warnings at This Time

By Patsy Hamilton The years of research performed by Phytopharm and their partner companies has not yielded any hoodia warnings and no undesirable side effects. Hoodia gordonii appears to be perfectly safe, but supplement companies which use this information to promote their products which do not contain 100% hoodia gordonii are not being 100% honest. Yes, hoodia gordonii appears to be safe. No toxic effect has been noted in laboratory animals that were injected with the purified p57 molecule isolated from the hoodia gordonii plant. Volunteers in the clinical study performed by Phytopharm did not report any side effects. Hoodia gordonii users monitored by interested physicians have not reported any unwanted side effects. But, no formal clinical research has been conducted by supplement companies that combine hoodia gordonii with other ingredients, such as green tea. Green tea is not a bad product. Many doctors and scientists agree that green tea can be an effective appetite suppressant. It contains anti-oxidants and green tea has a long history as a folk remedy, but green tea contains caffeine which is a stimulant. Although there are no hoodia warnings and no one knows of any side effects hoodia gordonii could cause, some concerns have been brought to our attention by users of hoodia; headache, side effects such as sleeplessness and nervousness. When further questioned, we learned that people who experienced these symptoms were using hoodia with green tea or other natural stimulants. There are many known side effects associated with the use of stimulants, even natural ones. Hoodia gordonii is not known to be a stimulant. Stimulants, such as caffeine, can trigger migraines, increase heart rate and blood pressure. Reports of hoodia headache, side effects normally associated with stimulant use, may lead to hoodia warnings. The only side effects hoodia gordonii consumption is known to cause is suppression of hunger and thirst. Reputable supplement companies advise dieters to consult with their doctors before they begin any weight loss program, whether that program includes hoodia gordonii use or not. Even after checking with ones doctor, it is advisable to check the product ingredients. Many people have unknowingly bought products which were mostly other ingredients. While there are no hoodia warnings at this time and no one knows of any side effects hoodia gordonii use may cause, anyone who experiences any problems after using products with hoodia (headache, side effects such as sleeplessness, nervousness, etc.) should discontinue use and consult their doctor. Marketing 202- Networking Skills

By Jay Hamilton-Roth You now know your goal for attending an event. If you’re naturally outgoing, then you’re well on your way. But what if you’re shy? Nervous? Insecure? Not a “people-person”? I never considered myself good at social events until I realized that socializing is a skill that can be authentically learned. You don’t have to fake a personality to succeed, and in fact the only way you can get good at socializing is to develop your strengths. There are some people who are naturally magnetic. If you don’t know your social strengths, ask your friends for their honest evaluation. Here are some of my networking skill tips: 1. Count Quality, Not Quantity. Some people I know go to events to collect other people’s business cards. They judge their success by how thick their card stack is. How often have you had someone come up to you, hand you their card and say, “Use my services!”, then they repeat this with everyone they see? Rather than playing the “numbers game”, spend time getting to know people in-depth. 2. Be More Interested In Them. People love talking about themselves. Ask people what they do. Why do they do this job? What’s in it for them? Where’s their passion for their job? I personally love hearing about people’s passion - whatever it is. 3. Avoid The Common Questions. “What do you do?” is the common first question people ask. People need to get their elevator speech off their chest. Let them. Pay attention. Then ask a question that you ARE interested in. Why? How long? What did you do before? 4. Talk in Specifics. Don’t talk about the weather. 5. Reveal Something About Yourself. You build trust by sharing something about yourself. 6. Find Commonality. If nothing else, you’re both at the same event. Why? Anything you both witnessed? 7. Thank You. A single interaction doesn’t build relationship. Send a “nice meeting you” email. Even better, a hand-written note. 8. Reconnect. When you see someone you met before (even if you don’t remember their name), say, “Hi”. People like to be recognized. 9. Remember Why Are People At The Event. People go to networking events to network. That means that you can potentially go up to anyone at an event and say, “Hi”. Introduce yourself. 10. Look For Other People Not Talking To Anyone. Inserting yourself in someone else’s conversation can be awkward. People are often relieved to have someone talk to them. 11. It’s Networking, Not Dating. Don’t take it personally. 12. It’s Networking, Not Dating. Keep your goals professional. If you’re at an event to get a date, it’ll confuse the person you’re talking with. Are you interested in them or their business? 13. Dress Nicer Than You Normally Do. You’ll feel better about yourself. When you feel better, it’s easier to be friendly. 14. Play The Host. Even if it’s the first time at this sort of event, welcome people. Look them in the eye. Ask them how you can they help. Pass along some tip (the bathrooms are around the corner). Introduce people to each other. 15. Help The Host. Introduce yourself to the host. Tell them why you’re at the event, tell them that who you’d like to meet and why. By being open to introductions, you make the host’s job easier. 15. Pay Attention To Your Energy. You don’t have to be networking all the time. Allow yourself some quiet time. Look around the room. Grab something (small) to eat. 16. Be Careful About Alcohol. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Alcohol may cloud your professional judgment or cause your tongue to slip. 17. Make Eye Contact. Make sure to give the person you’re talking with your complete attention. Besides being polite, it’ll relax the both of you - since they know you’re “there”. 18. Smile. Happy looking people are more approachable. 19. Don’t Take It Personally. Social events can be stressful. Some events are better for you than others. 20. Practice. Think of networking like dating. When you first started dating, you might have been quite awkward. Instead of trying to make the event be a huge success for you, simply try to improve your technique. The key thing is to be authentic. People can spot fakes easily. Find (or develop) some social skills and get really good at them. You might even find yourself looking forward to attending more networking events. How do you keep track of your network? Getting the Skinny on Plastic Surgery

By Stacy Richford Cosmetic surgery is becoming a normal practice for many people, almost to the point that its like going to the dentist. However this does not mean all is well in this cosmetic candy land. Yes, plastic surgery is very common and you have lots of doctors and surgical choices available to you, but there are other factors one needs to think about before making their way to the doctors office. Along with deciding on the right doctors and particular surgical procedure you want done; it would be wise to contemplate if the risks are worth the potential results. When you are deciding on what doctor will perform your surgery be sure you have reviewed all of his or her credentials. Its also advisable to talk with the doctors past patients and staff. If you have any friends or family that have had cosmetic surgery; talk with them about their doctor and how their procedure went. When deciding on a surgeon it is very important you verify that they are certified and properly accredited. There are many horror stories related to cosmetic surgery based on people not doing their due diligence on this important detail. After choosing your doctor you may want to factor in the distance and travel time from your home to the hospital. This plays an important role after your surgery since you will need to visit with your surgeon for follow up care. Make sure you arrange for a friend or family member to pick you up after your procedure. You will most likely be unable to drive due to medication or other surgery related reasons. However, not all surgeries require you to have another person drive you home, but you probably will not feel like driving after the operation even if you feasibly could. Most procedures are not covered under insurance policies unless your health is adversely affected and can only be corrected through a particular operation. Even then you must get a referral from a specialist who must provide in written detail why its imperative you have the procedure done. It is important to note that insurance companies are getting more lenient with their approvals on certain plastic surgeries; especially if the operation could lower the risk of you needing future medical care in the short and long term. Taking care of yourself post and pre-op will play an important role on how well you heal after your cosmetic surgery. You must keep all bandages on and clean. Avoid over exerting yourself as you will likely be restricted in most normal everyday activities. In many cases swelling will be present and persistent as your body readjusts to its new look and feel. Mentally you may feel fatigued or even disappointed, but these feelings resolve once the bandages have been removed and surgical areas have reduced in swelling. With cosmetic surgery you are changing your physical appearance so it will take getting use too. Some after post-op are still unsatisfied with the results and may need or want further procedures. Cosmetic surgery should be well thought through and you must be mentally ready for any adverse outcome. So take time deciding what will be right for you. Teen Fitness, Teen Health and College Health: Small, Easy Changes Before Big Ones

By Matt Elder Teen fitness, teen health and college health issues are everywhere. Teen fitness because teens are overweight, college health because of the “freshman 15″ and teen health because of weight issues like Type II Diabetes. How can we make issues like teen fitness and college health less of such an incredible concern? When people talk about “teen health”, how can we make sure the conversations are about how great our teen health is? Why can’t “teen fitness” mean how fit our teens are? When trying to change things like college health and teen fitness, we need to look at the micro instead of the macro. Sure, teen health wouldn’t be a big deal if all the McDonalds in the country were gone. And sure, college health would be a lot better if college students didnt drink. And finally, teen fitness would be a lot better if everyone made a varsity sport and there werent any vending machines in cafeterias. But lets face it, college health, teen health and teen fitness is at the forefront of our societys concerns because these things arent true. Because of this, college health and teen fitness will not improve with drastic changes. Teen health will be improved with small changes. Sure, fixing college health would be great by eliminating keggers. And obviously teen health and teen fitness would improve without the Internet. But in todays day and age, these things arent going to happen. Teen health and teen fitness will continue to diminish and college health will keep getting worse without small changes. Simple ways to improve teen health, college health and teen fitness: -Look for healthier options at the vending machines. Teen health is declining every time a student chooses a Ho Ho, Twinkie or packet of M&Ms. Most vending machines have healthier options. Small change needed to improve teen health and teen fitness: Switch to a healthier snack like pretzels or baked chips. Or, if you cant do that, try to only hit the vending machine once every other day. Either choice will save you hundreds of calories a day. This will certainly help teen health and teen fitness. -Workout, but remember, this doesnt mean for 90 minutes a day. Teen health, teen fitness and college health wouldnt be as bad if students exercised a half hour a day. Thats all you need. (Go to www.GenerationYfitness.com for free and short workouts) Working out for 90 minutes is a thing of the past, and teen health, college health and teen fitness would be improved if you realized this. -Watch liquid calories for better teen health and teen fitness. By liquid calories I mean everything from beer (college health would be a lot better!) to soda. And, what some people dont realize, is there are more calories in a regular soda than a beer! Liquid calories certainly add up and are clearly affecting teen health and college health. Small change to improve teen health and college health: Switch to diet soda, and if you must consume alcohol, switch to light beer and cut down on the drinking in general to save thousands of calories (and dozens of pounds of fat). -Learn to read! Teen health and college health would be improved if you learned to readnutritional labels, of course. Teen fitness would be fixed if you read these and learned how bad the food is that youre eating actually is. And, teen fitness and teen health would be improved if you learned about serving size. Small change to improve college health and teen fitness: Stick to serving sizes when snacking. College health and teen fitness doesnt need drastic changes to improve. Teen health can be fixed with small changes first, then drastic changes after. They enjoy being women. Russian women are very powerful. They are the glue that holds families together. They have no interest in acting like a man. That is your responsibility. Their role is to be wife and mother. A Russian woman takes pride in her appearance. Rarely are they overweight and they are always well dressed when they go out. You will be proud to have her accompany you. Here the word Russian is used to describe women from all the Commonwealth of Independent States all the countries that made up the former Soviet Union.
